How to add a liability

How to add a liability

‍

Have something you owe that you want to track, like a mortgage, loan, or credit card? Here's how to add a liability so it shows in your net worth each month.

‍

‍

1. A quick summary

‍

Your liabilities are what you owe. When you add one, you'll give it a name, value, type, and emoji. You can link a connected account so the amount owed updates automatically, or enter the value yourself.

‍

The value you enter is for the current month. Past months stay at $0 until you add them in Edit, unless the liability is linked to an account.

‍

‍

2. Adding a liability

‍

On the Net worth screen, tap Add liability on web, or the + next to Add a liability on mobile.

‍

If your plan doesn't include net worth, you'll see the upgrade screen instead.

‍

‍

3. Enter your details

‍

On the add liability screen, enter:

‍

  • 1. Name
  • 2. Type - required. Pick a type such as Mortgage, Loans, or Credit card. This is how the liability is grouped on the Net worth screen
  • 3. Value - the amount you owe this month
  • 4. Emoji

‍

‍

4. Link an account or enter the value

‍

Next to Link to an account, tap Yes or leave it as No.

‍

  • Yes - pick one or more connected accounts. Their balances become the amount owed, and stay up to date automatically. Linked items also fill past months from those account balances
  • No - enter the Value yourself. You'll need to update this if the amount changes

‍

‍

5. Add your liability

‍

Tap the green Add liability button. You'll land back on the Net worth screen, where the new liability sits in its type group.

‍

To change past months later, tap Edit next to your liabilities. Read How to edit an asset or liability for that walkthrough, or Net worth feature overview for the full picture.
