Which one should you use?
BudgetBuddie is everyday NZ budgeting: custom and zero-based periods, merchant-level money insights, connected KiwiSaver, and a retirement planner. YNAB is the better fit when the method is the main job: give every dollar a job. In NZ you import transactions by CSV or enter them by hand.
Choose BudgetBuddie
Everyday NZ budgeting with custom periods, zero-based budgets, connected KiwiSaver, and a retirement planner. Bank connections are on Pro.
Choose YNAB
The method is the main job: give every dollar a job, share with up to 6 people, and use a 34-day trial. In New Zealand there is no live bank feed.
Budget options
BudgetBuddie adds custom periods on top of zero-based. YNAB is monthly zero-based: every dollar gets a job.
Bank connections
BudgetBuddie connects NZ banks through Akahu on Pro. YNAB does not have NZ bank sync. Use CSV import or manual entry.
Cashflow
YNAB does not do long-range cashflow. BudgetBuddie is built for the week-to-week picture, with cashflow still included.
Retirement
BudgetBuddie has a dedicated retirement planner and connected KiwiSaver. YNAB has a loan calculator. It does not track KiwiSaver.
